Recipe: Manna Cookies

Manna Cookies, Easter cookies-Rae

Today I have a Easter recipe that is good for bible class or religion, or just for families and individuals that are looking for a way to celebrate Easter from a Catholic point of view.  The Ten Commandments is on at 7pm eastern time on ABC this Saturday March 26th.  This would be a great treat to make while watching the movie.

What is Manna?  “When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, ‘What is it?’ For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, ‘It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat’” (Exodus 16:15). The Hebrew word translated “manna” literally means “what is it?”

MANNA COOKIES

1/2 cup softened butter

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

2 tablespoons honey

1 cup granulated sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

2 eggs

2 cups flour

dash salt

optional  add 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander  (they did not sell this in any of my local stores so I did not add it)

Cream butter, adding sugar gradually, until light and pale.  Add eggs and beat thoroughly.  Add honey, salt and vanilla.  Combine baking powder and flour, add to butter mixture.  Drop by 1/2 teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet (or silpat) Bake in a 400 degree oven for 8 minutes or until done.  Cool on wire racks.
