Tortilla Wrap Appetizers

CINCO DE MAYO is just around the corner!!! These are great appetizers for the occasion or really anytime. Have a great CINCO DE MAYO!!!!

TORTILLA WRAP APPETIZERS

 You will need:

1 package of 10 flour tortillas

1 package taco cheese

Green onions, (I use 1 or 2, it depends if your guests like a lot of onion)

Sour cream, (I use less fat, or no fat)

10 slices Ham, (you could use turkey also)

Toothpicks, about 50 if you slice each in 5

Directions:

Slightly warm the tortillas in the microwave, the whole pack for about 10 seconds.

Spread the sour cream over the tortilla, stop at about ½ inch from the edge

Place a slice of ham in the middle of tortilla, flat

Add green onion and cheese, not too much of either or it will spill out.

Roll up the tortilla.  (see pic for finished product)

Place toothpicks in to the size appetizers you choose, I usually have 5 per tortilla.

Now slice in 5, or your choosing.  Place in fridge until ready to use, Cover with plastic wrap, the onion is a very strong smell.

I have made these a day ahead and they were fine.

Enjoy!!!

What We Do In The Shadows TV Show

I loved the Movie What We Do In The Shadows and was excited to hear there would be a show based off the movie on FX channel. It’s a great show, the humor is just like the movie and it has you cracking up. I have recommended it to other people and they loved it off the bat.  You should definitely watch it.  Still not sure?  Watch a trailer below. (the trailer uses adult language)

Taco Pizza

My family likes taco pizza, but they never liked the cream cheese layer.  I made a simple taco pizza that is good for your picky eaters.

Taco Pizza

1 Pillsbury thin pizza crust

1 jar taco sauce

lettuce, chopped

1 pound ground beef, fully cooked

8 ounces shredded taco cheese

Directions:

bake pizza crust per instructions

while crust is baking, cook ground beef, cook until done, drain the fat.

When crust is done add 1/2 the cheese to the top.  now add ground beef, lettuce and the remaining cheese on top, drizzle taco sauce on top.  Slice and enjoy!!

Manna Cookies

Easter is this Sunday so I wanted to repost my top recipe on the blog.  People seem to love this cookie recipe and it’s searched for almost daily.

This recipe is great for bible class or religion, or just for families and individuals that are looking for a way to celebrate Easter from a Catholic point of view.

What is Manna?  “When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, ‘What is it?’ For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, ‘It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat’” (Exodus 16:15). The Hebrew word translated “manna” literally means “what is it?”

MANNA COOKIES

1/2 cup softened butter

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

2 tablespoons honey

1 cup granulated sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

2 eggs

2 cups flour

dash salt

1/2 teaspoon of ground coriander, optional, I did not use, honestly I could not find the ground coriander in my store.

Cream butter, adding sugar gradually, until light and pale.  Add eggs and beat thoroughly.  Add honey, salt and vanilla.  Combine baking powder and flour, add to butter mixture.  Drop by 1/2 teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet (or silpat) Bake in a 400 degree oven for 8 minutes or until done.  Cool on wire racks.

Red Hot Veggie Pizza

If you are a fan of veggie pizza and spice, you should give this a try.  Instead of using the traditional ranch packet, I recently discovered Frank’s Red Hot Ranch Seasoning Mix

The mix has a kick, so this is more of an adult appetizer, it might be a bit too hot for kids, but its really tasty and great for parties.

RED HOT VEGGIE PIZZA

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 PILLSBURY thin pizza crust, or brand you can find, regular is fine too
  • 1 envelope franks red hot ranch, if you cant find use ranch and add 1 tablespoon franks red hot sauce
  • 3 cups finely chopped mixed vegetables, I used peppers, and broccoli
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Directions

On a greased cookie sheet, cook the pizza crust per directions.  let cool a bit before adding topping

Chop veggies small and set aside, in a bowl add softened cream cheese, sour cream and ranch envelope, mix well

when crust is cool, spread the cream cheese mix over crust, add veggies and then sprinkle cheese on top, cut and serve.

Enjoy!!

Excerpt:

Two demon guards clad in black body armor entered the barracks. Their red eyes glowed behind dark face shields. They approached Victor and one guard said, “Get up and come with us.”

All the guards sounded and looked alike. They were even the same height and body structure.

Victor knew better than to refuse. There would be no point in fighting, even if he was so inclined.

He guessed he would be going to one of two possible places. It would either be the punishment chamber because he’d killed Slate too quickly or — and this was more likely — to the demon masters who had bargained with him to kill for their entertainment.

The guards brought Victor out of the barracks and down a steel corridor to an elevator at the end. They boarded it. Except for the soft whir of the elevator descending, there was silence.

It stopped with an almost imperceptible lurch. The door opened and Victor, accompanied by the guards, stepped into a spacious room with an enormous glass ball in the center of it. Several couches surrounded it. While the upholstery resembled leather, Victor’s sense of smell told him the couches were covered with material that hadn’t come from any four-legged animal.

He’d been in this room before. Here, the demons had bargained with him for the lives of his fellow gladiators, their mates, and their cubs. Here, he’d traded his integrity and his soul for their lives.

The guards disappeared into dark corners of the room.

Since he had no intention of sitting on the foul furniture, Victor stood near the glass ball and waited.

The ball glowed faintly at first. Then it brightened. From within, two demon masters — one male and one female — stared at him. He knew they weren’t actually there. The ball was similar to television. He could see and hear them, but they were far away.

The male had ink-black, elbow-length hair. Tall and slim, he was dressed from head to foot in red. The female had short white hair. Her skin was nearly as pale as her form-fitting white dress. Both demons stared at him with black eyes.

“Your game has improved, Victor,” said the male, “but I’m afraid you still haven’t mastered the art of performing. Your kills aren’t entertaining enough, but for now that’s beside the point. We haven’t called you here to critique your style, but for another reason.”

“We have something special planned for you,” the female continued. “There’s a new contender in the tower — one who has seen you fight and wishes to face you in the arena.”
